These instructions should work well if you are using Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7. In this example, I am using Firefox to download Inkscape, but you could also use Internet Explorer Google Chrome, or other, and although the steps may vary a little, the basic idea is still the same.
Search for the download source (or just click on this link: http://inkscape.org/download/)
Select what type of download you want, in this case a windows installer.
Select which release version you want, in this case, we will choose the latest release.
Tell your computer you want to download/save the file to your computer.
Wait for the download to complete, then launch/open the downloaded file.
Select your language (or a language you’d like to learn the hard way…)
Begin the pre-install, just keep clicking ‘Next’.
Click ‘Install’. Inkscape will be installed on your computer. It can be removed at any time by going to Start > Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program > Then select it from a list of programs installed on your computer.
